Training Excellence (FITEC CATEGORIES)

Modern Apprentice of the Year

- certificate

This award recognises an individual’s commitment to self-development and skill achievement throughout the modern apprenticeship

To be eligible for this award the modern apprentice must:

· Demonstrate commitment to self-development and skill achievement throughout the modern apprenticeship

· Have completed their modern apprenticeships programme in the training year 1 April 2011 to 31 March 2012

· Be employed in the wood industry at the time of nomination and be nominated by their current employer

· Have their nomination supported by the General Manager/Managing Director/CEO or similar

(only employers are eligible to nominate modern apprentices for this award)

Trainee of the Year

- certificate

This award recognises an individual’s commitment to self-development and skill achievement through industry training

To be eligible for this award the trainee must:

· Demonstrate commitment to self-development and skill achievement through industry training

· Have completed a minimum of 1 National Certificate in the training year 1 April 2011 to 31 March 2012

· Be employed in the wood industry at the time of nomination and be nominated by their current employer

· Have their nomination supported by the General Manager/Managing Director/CEO or similar

· Modern Apprentices who are in a continuing Modern Apprenticeships programme or who completed their Modern Apprenticeship during the training year are not eligible

(only employers are eligible to nominate trainees for this award)

Training Company/Contractor of the Year

- certificate

This award recognises a company/contractor that demonstrate a successful and purposeful commitment to people development through industry training.

The winner can demonstrate a consistent training programme, culture and vision.

To be eligible for this award the company must:

· Demonstrate a successful and purposeful commitment to people development through industry training. This includes a consistent training programme, culture and vision

· Have a FITEC training history of at least 2 years. The company endorsement of FITEC training is evident through the FITEC training history of their employees

· Have their nomination supported by the General Manager/Managing Director/CEO or similar

NB: Training provider organisations are not eligible for this award

(Anyone can nominate a company for this award providing the nominee meets the eligibility criteria)

Skilled Professionals

Forestry Excellence Award (Individual – establishment, silviculture, fire)

- certificate

This award recognises an individual that works within one of these areas across the forestry operations chain and demonstrates excellence beyond best practise guidelines

To be eligible for this award the individual must:

· Demonstrate a high quality of work output

· Demonstrate productivity in their work output

· Show provision for on-going training

· Comply to environmental and health & safety practises

· Be recognised by their peers and employers

· Show good character with being positive, honest and reliable

Roading Excellence Award (Individual)

This award recognises an individual that demonstrates an excellence across a range of skills within the roading establishment chain beyond best practise guidelines

To be eligible for this award the individual must:

· Demonstrate a high quality of work output

· Demonstrate productivity in their work output

· Show provision for on-going training

· Comply to environmental and health & safety practises

· Be recognised by their peers and employers

· Show good character with being positive, honest and reliable

Harvesting Excellence Award (Individual involved in harvesting crew)

This award recognises an individual that demonstrates an excellence across a range of skills within the harvesting supply chain beyond best practise guidelines

To be eligible for this award the individual must:

· Demonstrate their ability to be multi-skilled across the supply chain

· Demonstrate a high quality of work output

· Demonstrate productivity in their work output

· Show provision for on-going training

· Comply to environmental and health & safety practises

· Be recognised by their peers and employers

· Show good character with being positive, honest and reliable

Distribution Excellence Award (individual involved as log truck drivers, dispatch, Port Workers)

This award recognises an individual that works within one of these areas across the distribution chain and demonstrates excellence beyond best practise guidelines

To be eligible for this award the individual must:

· Demonstrate a high quality of work output

· Demonstrate productivity in their work output

· Show provision for on-going training

· Comply to environmental and health & safety practises

· Be recognised by their peers and employers

· Show good character with being positive, honest and reliable

Wood Processing Excellence Award (Individual)

This award recognises an individual that demonstrates an excellence across a range of skills within the wood processing chain beyond best practise guidelines

To be eligible for this award the individual must:

· Demonstrate a high quality of work output

· Demonstrate productivity in their work output

· Show provision for on-going training

· Comply to environmental and health & safety practises

· Be recognised by their peers and employers

· Show good character with being positive, honest and reliable

Contractor of the Year (covers all supply chains including logging, roading, silviculture and distribution)

- TROPHY

This award recognises the entire team or company which provides outstanding service to the forestry industry

To be eligible for this award the team/company must:

· Deliver with conviction in areas of production, health & safety, and human resource management

· Deliver their service with a quality output

· Demonstrate strong leadership skills

· Be nominated by forest owner or manager

Industry Development

Outstanding H&S Management Award

- TROPHY

This award recognises performance of an individual or company that demonstrates above and beyond the general compliance of health and safety policies and regulations within the forestry industry

To be eligible for this award the individual/company must:

· Meet the baseline Health & Safety standards as per the Approved Code of Practice for Health & Safety in forest operations and FITEC Best Practise Guidelines

· Have possibly managed a single event with outstanding merit

· Have possibly demonstrated a new or innovative health & safety product which will be advantage to industry

Outstanding Environmental Management Award

- TROPHY

This award recognises performance of an individual or company that demonstrates above and beyond the general compliance of environmental management rules and regulations within the forestry industry

To be eligible for this award the individual/company must:

· Meet the baseline environmental standards as per the RMA and NZ Environmental Code of Practice

· As well as NZ Forest Owners Policies and other standards like FSC (Forest Stewardship Council)

· Have possibly managed a single event with outstanding merit

· Have possibly demonstrated a new or innovative product which will be benefit the industry environment

Outstanding Business & Development Award

- TROPHY

This award recognises an individual operator or organisation that has demonstrated either am initiative/s that provide economic benefit to the region specific to this industry or a new innovation which provides greater business production and effective operation

To be eligible for this award the individual or organisation that must:

· Have designed an innovative product or business system

· Have the potential to be commercially replicable

· Be successful and provide economic benefits

· Have demonstrated an initiative/s that provide economic benefit to the region

· Demonstrate innovation and implementation

Eastland Wood Council Skilled Professional of the Year

- TROPHY (Major Award)

This award recognises an individual for leading in their field of expertise, demonstrating excellence in professional skills, attitude & attributes recognised by their peers and employers and of genuine good character

To be eligible for this award the individual must:

· Have been awarded with any of the following certificates from this EWC Forestry Awards
